Guesthouse Rajka is located in South Bohemia (map),
a region of lovely rolling hills and medieval towns, the meandering Moldau and proud
castles full of history. Springtime paints yellow the fields of rape seed and white-pink
ribbons of apple blossom line the roads. In summer the wheatfields wave and fruit ripens
and when autumn comes deer browse around in the ploughed soil.In the near and far
vicinity of Rajka you'll find woods and waters, art and culture, age old farmhouses and
scattered houses from the forgone communist era. It creates a wonderfull cocktail of old
and oldfashioned that calls to mind a Europe of 50 years ago. A Europe that still is
fascinatingly "different" and where asphalt doesn't rule.
Guesthouse Rajka lies on the edge of the village of Mojne (photos),
a village of 211 souls. Across from Rajka is "The Chestnut", the local bar.
Downtown at the pond is a small shop for daily necessities. There is a gravel field where
the local boys and whoever dares to challenge them play the popular sport "novy
bal" (foot volley). (photo).
Two kilometers ahead is Cernice, a settlement with a surprisingly beautiful church and
cemetery. Because of the many forests, bogs and lakes the area abounds with game and fish.
The rural surroundings and natural scenery are great for outdoor activities like hiking,
climbing, bicycling, canoeing, swimming and fishing.
